I have new work at 2 exhibitions this week here in Chicago. Tomorrow night (thursday) the 18th, i am presenting Grow Club at The (Con)Temporary Art Space, it’s located at 208 S. Wabash, Chicago, IL, from 4.30 – 8.30pm. (C)TAS is an avenue for discussion, research and action. The former retail space will be used as a working studio by cultural workers, producers, artists and designers for projects they are working on collectively and individually. The Public will be able to absorb these presentations as well as share their ideas about contemporary art. The (Con)Temporary Art Space will function as a information center and a place to learn about Chicago’s diverse art ecology. Here’s a link to the (C)TAS web site….

I did apply for 2 grants this summer but one was not for the guggenheim that one was to much for me at the time. I was in Spain and not thinking about paper work of any kind. I think the other one is going to happen it’s from the state… Yes, I went to Spain on one of the bolaric island. It was awesom hung out on beaches snorkled for the 1st time did some site seeing via train.

I’ve been in a few shows this summer and the start of the fall. One was at Oak Park Art League, artXposium 2.0, and another show in Fort Myers that is going up rt. now titled, Gardenfresh Artist. I keep forgetting the name of the University it’s at. I have a few things on the horizon but will talk about those later.

Review of Distress in New City

Great review in New City this week———–

“HOLLY HOLMES, “Distress,” painting. Holly Holmes’ exhibition, “Distress,” highlights the contrasts between nature and industry, between utopia and ruin, and how destruction is both grimly and playfully portrayed. Rolling green hills and a mountain’s dark shadow contrast with a bright orange sunset, while lava-spewing volcanoes, a rust-colored factory and several skyscrapers interrupt the idyllic scene. Disproportionate spacing between objects purposefully accentuates the unnatural forces at work. Even more apocalyptic is a cluster of nuclear cooling towers sitting on a dark brown landscape. Industrial pollution fills the turquoise sky with specks of gray and black, while pea green and burgundy hues line the inside of the tower. In other paintings, nature takes on ironic, artificial and human characteristics. Knots in tree stumps look like polka dots, particularly when shaded violet or green. Fish swimming above oil drums and beer bottles appear to wear lipstick. White herons wearing red-haired wigs stand with legs crossed atop melting icebergs. Holmes’ plunge into dystopia proves to be oddly comical. Illustrated interruptions of ideal landscapes relate anxiety about the real world. (Ben Broeren)”
